BILLING AND INSURANCE
Payments can only be made in Korean won (KRW) or by
credit card (Mastercard, Visa, AMEX, UPI, etc.).

I. Billing Process for International Insurance

Direct billing is available only through third-party assistance partners that have an agreement with Hanyang University Medical Center.

Medical Service and Billing Process
  1. 01 Contact your Insurance Provider

    • Contact your insurance provider directly and request GOP issuance.

  2. 02 Check Guarantee of Payment
    • GOP Received (Yes)

      If the GOP is received at the International Clinic Center through a partner, deferred payment will proceed within the coverage of the guarantee.
      (Copayments may occur depending on the coverage.)

    • GOP NOT Received (No)

      If the GOP is not received at the International Clinic Center through a partner, you must pay the medical expenses in full first and then claim them directly from your insurance provider.

  3. 03 Medical Service and Next Schedule
    • Outpatient

      Following medical service, the International Clinic Center will process the billing to your insurance provider through an agency. You will be notified of your next appointment schedule, and an additional GOP required for the next visit will be requested as well.

    • Inpatient

      If an extension of GOP or an increase in the guarantee limit is required during hospitalization, the International Clinic Center will make a request to your insurance provider through an agency.

Subscribers of National Health Insurance in Korea

Hanyang University Seoul Hospital is a tertiary general hospital. To receive National Health Insurance benefits, you must submit a referral form (medical treatment referral) issued by a primary or a secondary medical facility to be eligible for health insurance (medical benefits) coverage. Although medical treatment is possible without a referral form, you will be responsible for the full cost of medical expenses (100% of insurance medical fee). Health insurance benefits apply from the moment the referral form is submitted. Retroactive application to prior treatment is not available.
[Exception] Departments eligible for insurance benefits without referral form: Emergency room, dentistry, family medicine

  • Convenience for foreigners without referral form: If you first receive medical service at the Dept. of Family Medicine, a referral form can be issued.

III. Institutional Benefits

Medical expense discount benefits are provided to members of the Hanyang family.
  • Target : Faculty/staff and their families of Hanyang Foundation (university, elementary/middle/high schools)
  • Requirements : Medical discount referral form and faculty/staff ID (or student ID) required
  • Important note : Documents must be submitted to the registration/payment office prior to medical service. Retroactive application is only allowed if registered within one week of the date of medical service.
